In addition to improving the posture of those who have back problems, yoga stretches, tones and strengthens the muscles of the body.

kovaisky yogahttp://www.kovaiskyyoga.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-74684479779082749792010-09-20T07:57:03.308-07:002010-09-20T07:57:03.308-07:00Matt, I would recommend the translation by Georg F...Matt, I would recommend the translation by Georg Feurstein, which though on the 'dry' academic side, is among the most literal. Then the translation by Chip Hartranft which is clear and a bit more readable.

For early Buddhist discourses, I would recommend starting with a wonderful anthology called "In The Buddha's Words" by Bhikkhu Bodhi.

That should be plenty for a start! :-)Poep Sa Frank Judehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609272991412471770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-68822678917938484872010-09-19T23:04:57.258-07:002010-09-19T23:04:57.258-07:00Frank Jude, which translations of the Yoga Sutra a...Frank Jude, which translations of the Yoga Sutra and other source texts would you recommend to start with?Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14965890131948162737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-62037478907320572202010-09-19T22:14:50.287-07:002010-09-19T22:14:50.287-07:00That sounds wonderful, Matt!

Many folk just accept the commentaries without question, which I think is a mistake. We must read the source texts (and if in translation, then many different translations) to get a sense for ourselves.

I think many students think it 'disrespectful' to critique these traditions, but if we do not bring our critical thinking to them, rather than engaging with live texts, we simply become dead text fundamentalists!Poep Sa Frank Judehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609272991412471770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-89410072011926226942010-09-19T18:23:27.515-07:002010-09-19T18:23:27.515-07:00Regarding the debate around the meaning of "w...Regarding the debate around the meaning of "whole body", in my experience I feel the energy flow within the body when I bring my whole body (head to toe) into awareness. I became aware of this spontaneously a couple months into my sitting practice simply by focusing on the breath. Now I can do it "at will" and see that the "prana and apana are indeed flowing at this very moment" as Chip says.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14965890131948162737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-69286911186677140672010-09-16T09:13:49.332-07:002010-09-16T09:13:49.332-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Georg Feuersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043382250970089167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-91930636132428262282010-09-16T09:11:59.774-07:002010-09-16T09:11:59.774-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Georg Feuersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043382250970089167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-22770697745201685422010-09-16T09:11:32.804-07:002010-09-16T09:11:32.804-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Georg Feuersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043382250970089167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-54754655131832277512010-09-16T09:09:28.560-07:002010-09-16T09:09:28.560-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Georg Feuersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043382250970089167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-74212532501333277902010-09-16T09:07:03.469-07:002010-09-16T09:07:03.469-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Georg Feuersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043382250970089167noreply@blogger.com
