Talk like this is either metaphorical or based upon belief which you are welcome to, but which really doesn't say much in terms of continuing the investigation and conversation.

Poep Sa Frank Judehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609272991412471770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-74773241377566242102012-12-03T01:57:52.861-08:002012-12-03T01:57:52.861-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Yoga Classes in Bostonhttp://bostonyoga1.weebly.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-32247364216245180842012-06-09T05:57:24.236-07:002012-06-09T05:57:24.236-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Imtiajnipuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06795679153848679304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-61805588974505300202012-06-06T00:02:19.829-07:002012-06-06T00:02:19.829-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Imtiajnipuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06795679153848679304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-38389646792314912172012-05-27T11:54:34.511-07:002012-05-27T11:54:34.511-07:00Leif,
Thanks for writing and for your very good, ...Leif,

Thanks for writing and for your very good, probing questions!

First, do I think the return to one's body is the "royal road" to healing when suffering from life's difficulties?

I'm not sure if I'd want to call it the "royal road," but I do know that if I lose connection with what I am feeling, my reactivity increases and that rarely helps the situation. So, as a first step in dealing with difficulty, coming back to the body and truly feeling what your experience is, I do believe is absolutely necessary. Just think of all the times you have said (and have said to you by someone obviously angry) "I'm not angry." Psychologists call this "passive aggression," and I know from experience that when I stop and let myself feel the discomfort and OWN the anger, a more skillful response becomes available!

Your second question is in relation to the thought processes. I agree that much thought in difficult situations spirals into greater suffering and sometimes paralysis! So, a "well developed interoception" would allow one to step back from the mire of such thought, feel what they are feeling, and from that place of acceptance (which is an acceptance of the feeling, NOT necessarily the situation if it is unjust, for instance) the thoughts that will arise will now be more skillful and effective. I think this is why "Right Thinking" comes after "Right View" on the 8-fold path of the buddha.

So yes, interoception creates a bit of 'space' to step back from the conditioned reactivity, that then allows deeper wisdom to offer a more skillful response. It also helps us gain clarity on just what our reactivity is so that we can recognize it ever more quickly when it arises.

As for "training in interoception," as the articles I quote show, mindfulness meditation (which includes mindful eating, body movement practices such as yogasana or tai chi, etc) itself IS a training in interoception.

Thanks again for writing in!Poep Sa Frank Judehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609272991412471770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5782640369398595619.post-7684060973663951802012-05-26T12:15:31.126-07:002012-05-26T12:15:31.126-07:00When you suffer from difficulties in your life do ...When you suffer from difficulties in your life do you think the return to your body is the royal road to heal yourself? We all know how strong the thinking mode is working when we are depressed from difficulties such as suddenly being unemployed. We try to solve the situation by doing, producing endless amounts of thoughts about the past and the future. In which way will a well developed interoception help us in such difficulties? Is it to create a little more space for yourself? Is it to find your own inner plastic force that will help you to find new paths in your life? If training in interocoception is a fruitful way to deal with difficulties in life - what is the mechanism and the healing factor? Thank you for sharing this interesting topic!!Leif_mindfulnessyogahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15934584210752523581noreply@blogger.com
